In his Easter message of 1952, Dr. Ernest Holmes wrote:
The great hope and expectation of all of us is that we shall live forever, that that which makes us alive, awake, and aware shall continue beyond the grave. When the disciples of Jesus asked him: “What is God's relationship to the dead?” He answered by saying, “He is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.” In other words, Jesus was saying: God is Life, and Life cannot produce death. God is Love, and Love cannot create hate. God is Peace and Joy, and God is right where you are. Not only in this world, but in another world, which was as real to him as this one is to us.
Today the choir sings Psalm 23 to amplify the message of hope and eternal life that is traditionally part of this holy season. Dr. Ernest Holmes writes about the psalm, that when we follow the pathway of righteousness, which means right-use-ness, and when we take the name of God with us, then we are in line with the Great Harmony of the Universe, and we are restored in body, mind, and soul, because the Spirit makes everything new.
Let us then celebrate together that within us, which lives forever.
Warmly,
Edward Viljoen
